I want to thank you all for reaching out to family and myself after the email that sent out about our home invasion and studio burglary www.shaneevans.com/emails/feb07/inspiration.html. It has been trying for us post the event but we are getting back to normal and feeling blessed.

The police recovered our automobile, made some arrests connected to the theft, but no other items were recovered. It turned out that teenagers were the perpetrators. I felt especially connected to the situation as I lecture in schools and speak to young people sharing inspiration with them to do something creative in life. I feel a part of guiding youth as the work that I do directly affects young minds. I have seen the positive response to the work that I have done through children’s responses and communications with me through the years.

I wanted to follow up with the next animated piece from the "black angels" animation series that is a true testimony to the action that came following the events from last month.

I was scheduled to speak at a youth detention center in March; there was actually a moment of apprehension to. I thought a lot about what I would share with these young people who had lost their freedom to a bad choice. Every lecture that I do is different, not only are the groups different but am I different. For those who have been burglarized, perhaps you can relate to the feelings of looking at the world differently for a time frame post an event like of this nature.

My action, my verb, what was it to be after this burglary?

The more I thought about it the more I saw the importance to give this lecture. The morning of the lecture I was open to what I was going to receive and what I was going to share. I walked into a secure facility, having to pass through a metal detector, then proceeded into a window less gymnasium where I set up my equipment. There sat 8-10 young men in their teens. Later close to 50 youth, boys and girls would come to listen to me lecture all walking into the gym with guards. The environment was tense for me but the purpose was the same, to inspire youth. I took these teenagers through 70 slides that visually document my artistic journey and shares my personal life experience. The slides show places all over the world, so at least for an hour these young people could take a journey outside of their environment.

Post the lecture I take questions, at first they were apprehensive to ask, but they soon started a flurry of amazing question. It was clear to me that they were creative young people interested in their freedom to create. It was a good day for me as a creative person and I hoped that they got as much out of the experience as I did.

I left feeling like I did the work that I am hear on earth to do, to inspire and share my vision.

I pray that my action, my VERB inspired even one person.
